Alternative
A Metaplane Alternative With Column-Level Lineage Built In
Metaplane is a well-liked, easy-to-adopt data observability tool with solid freshness and anomaly monitoring, and it was acquired by Datadog in April 2025, so it now sits inside a much larger observability suite as Metaplane by Datadog. That is a good thing if your company already runs Datadog and wants data monitoring in the same pane of glass, and a reason to look elsewhere if you do not want to buy into that stack. Datatrail covers the same monitoring ground but leads with lineage: full column-level tracing, lineage past the dbt boundary from parsed query logs, and impact analysis that shows what breaks downstream before you ship. Both are read-only; Datatrail stays self-serve and independent.
