Acceldata vs Atlan is not a choice between two versions of the same product. Acceldata is a data observability platform: it watches pipelines, data quality and warehouse spend, and its AWS Marketplace listings price Data Reliability at $5,000 a unit and Spend Intelligence at $100,000 per Snowflake account a year. Atlan is a data catalog and governance layer, sold by private offer only, whose UK government rate card starts at £110,000 a year plus seats. Buy Acceldata when the problem is broken or expensive pipelines. Buy Atlan when the problem is that nobody can find or trust the data.

The pages that rank for this comparison today are aggregator grids, and the prices they print disagree with each other and with both vendors. One comparison site lists a $15 a month Atlan plan that does not exist anywhere on Atlan's own site. So we went to the sources that have to carry a real number: Acceldata's transactable AWS Marketplace listings (re-read 13 October 2026) and Atlan's filed UK G-Cloud 14 pricing document. The numbers explain the two products better than any feature tick list.

Two things stand out. Acceldata's listing prices a unit without saying how many terabytes one unit buys, so the $5,000 figure is a floor, not a quote. Atlan is the opposite: it never shows a US price, but the filed card itemizes every line, so you can build a list estimate before the first sales call. The full breakdowns are on Acceldata pricing and Atlan pricing.

Is Acceldata cheaper than Atlan?

For data quality monitoring alone, usually yes. A small Data Reliability footprint starts at $5,000 a year on the listing, and even several units stay well below Atlan's £110,000 platform floor (about $148,700). The gap closes fast once Acceldata's cost module is in the deal: one Snowflake account under Spend Intelligence is $100,000 on its own, so a contract with reliability, platform access and spend monitoring for a single account is already past $115,000 at list.

Atlan's number grows with people and sources instead. In our DataHub vs Atlan comparison a 15-person team with eight sources came to £163,820 a year on the Advanced list, about $221,450. Vendr reports real Atlan deals anywhere from $15,000 to over $150,000, which tells you the list card is a starting position, not what most buyers sign.

The honest answer is that you are not comparing like for like. A buyer who expects Atlan to replace Acceldata's anomaly detection, or Acceldata to replace Atlan's glossary and stewardship, will overpay for whichever one they pick.

Acceldata vs Atlan for data quality on Snowflake

This is where the two now overlap. Atlan launched Data Quality Studio for Snowflake in June 2025, and its current docs describe rules defined in Atlan and pushed down to the warehouse: Snowflake runs them as Data Metric Functions, BigQuery as stored procedures, and Databricks through Delta Live Tables. Results come back as pass, fail or warning on the asset, next to its lineage and ownership.

That design matters for cost. With Atlan the checks run on your warehouse compute, so the Snowflake bill carries the monitoring load. With Acceldata the checks run in its own data plane, which sits as pods on a Kubernetes cluster in your cloud account, so you pay for and operate that cluster. Acceldata also goes further on the operations side: reconciliation between systems, pipeline monitoring across Spark and Hadoop, and warehouse spend analysis, none of which a catalog tries to do.

Rule of thumb: if your quality needs are a set of declared checks on governed Snowflake tables, Atlan's studio may be enough and saves a second contract. If you need anomaly detection across a hybrid estate, or the spend module is the real reason for the purchase, that is Acceldata's ground.

Can you use Acceldata and Atlan together?

Yes, and the vendors built for it. Acceldata's documentation describes a native Atlan integration that publishes its Data Reliability Score, Data Quality Score and Reconciliation Score into the Atlan asset overview, along with policy execution results and a trust badge. The catch is mapping: each Atlan asset has to be mapped to the matching Acceldata data source, and without a mapping nothing is published. Budget time for that, because on a large estate it is a project of its own.

Which is better for data lineage, Acceldata or Atlan?

Atlan, if lineage means a browsable, documented map that analysts and stewards use to find and trust data. Lineage is central to the catalog and sits alongside glossary terms, owners and certification. Acceldata includes lineage in its platform, but it serves the observability job: tracing where a failed check or a cost spike came from.

Neither is built around the question a data engineer asks before a merge: if I change this column, which models and dashboards break? That pre-change impact analysis on column-level lineage is what DataTrail does, read-only against the warehouse.

Which should you buy?

  • Buy Acceldata when pipelines are breaking or warehouse spend is out of control across Snowflake, Databricks and older Spark or Hadoop systems, and you have a platform team that can run its data plane.
  • Buy Atlan when a governance or analytics leader needs a catalog that hundreds of people will use, with lineage, glossary and policy in one place, and the budget is a six-figure line.
  • Buy both when you need each job done properly, and plan the asset mapping before you sign the second contract.
  • Buy neither yet when the real pain is that a renamed column keeps breaking dashboards. DataTrail connects read-only, builds column-level lineage from query history and the dbt graph, and adds schema change alerts for $59 to $479 a month on the pricing page, self-serve.

Whichever way you go, both of these are annual, non-refundable commitments, so log the renewal and notice dates in contract management software the day you sign.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between Acceldata and Atlan?

Acceldata is a data observability platform that monitors data quality, pipeline health and warehouse spend. Atlan is a data catalog and governance platform for discovery, documentation, lineage and policy. They overlap only at the edges: Atlan now runs data quality rules in the warehouse, and Acceldata includes lineage, but each is built around a different buyer and job.

How much does Acceldata cost compared to Atlan?

Acceldata's AWS Marketplace listings price Data Reliability at $5,000 per unit and Spend Intelligence at $100,000 per Snowflake account or Databricks workspace for 12 months. Atlan publishes no US price; its UK G-Cloud 14 card lists Advanced at £110,000 and Enterprise at £300,000 a year before seats and extra connectors. For monitoring alone, Acceldata is usually the cheaper contract.

Does Atlan replace a data observability tool?

Partly. Atlan's Data Quality Studio runs declared checks natively in Snowflake, BigQuery and Databricks and shows results on the asset, which covers rule-based quality for governed tables. It does not cover pipeline monitoring across Spark and Hadoop, cross-system reconciliation or spend analysis, which is where a dedicated observability platform like Acceldata still earns its contract.

Does Acceldata integrate with Atlan?

Yes. Acceldata publishes its Data Reliability, Data Quality and Reconciliation scores, policy results and a trust badge into the Atlan asset overview. Each Atlan asset must be mapped to the matching Acceldata data source first; unmapped assets receive nothing.

What are the alternatives to Acceldata and Atlan?

On the observability side, Monte Carlo, Bigeye and Sifflet publish AWS rate cards between $45,000 and $50,000 a year. On the catalog side, Alation lists $60,000 and DataHub Cloud $75,000 a year on AWS. For lineage and change impact without either contract, DataTrail runs $59 to $479 a month.
