Datafold Pricing and Datafold Cost: $15,000 a Year for 5 Developers on AWS Marketplace
Datafold's pricing page is a demo form. Its AWS Marketplace listing is not: 5 provisioned developers cost $15,000 a year and 10 cost $30,000, a flat $3,000 per seat. Below is what that buys, why the $799 a month figure you keep seeing is from 2022, and what a team that needs lineage rather than data diff actually has to spend.
Read-only connection. DataTrail never moves or mutates your data.
Datafold costs $15,000 a year for 5 provisioned developers and $30,000 a year for 10, according to the rate card on Datafold's own AWS Marketplace listing. That is exactly $3,000 per developer per year at both sizes, with no volume break. datafold.com/pricing shows no figures and asks you to book a demo. The widely repeated "$799 a month" comes from a Datafold blog post dated 2 June 2022. The Marketplace contract is 12 months only, non-cancellable and non-refundable.
Datafold pricing on AWS Marketplace: two seat packages, one rate
Datafold sells the listing itself, and it is transactable: an AWS customer can accept the contract and pay on the AWS bill. That is why it carries real dollar amounts when the vendor's website does not. There are exactly two rate cards, both on a 12-month term.
| Field | What the listing says |
|---|---|
| Seller | Datafold, selling directly (not a reseller) |
| Dimension 1 | 5 Provisioned Developers, 12 months: $15,000.00 |
| Dimension 2 | 10 Provisioned Developers, 12 months: $30,000.00 |
| Unit on the listing | Users |
| Other durations offered | None, 12 months only |
| What it is sold for | Development, deployment and migration testing for dbt |
| Refund policy | Non-cancellable and non-refundable except as required by law |
$15,000 divided by 5 and $30,000 divided by 10 give the same $3,000. That is $250 per developer a month. Doubling the team doubles the bill: the listing has no volume break at all.
Neither package mentions tables, rows diffed, warehouses or CI runs. A 40-model dbt project and a 4,000-model one pay the same list price if the same five people write code against it. Most observability vendors meter the opposite way, by table or by credit.
Is Datafold still $799 a month? Where that number comes from
Search for Datafold pricing and most summaries say the Cloud plan starts at $799 a month billed annually. That sentence is real, and it is Datafold's own: it appears in a post called "Datafold for Everyone", dated 2 June 2022, which launched three tiers, a free tier for small dbt teams, a Cloud tier "starting at $799 / month when billed annually", and Enterprise for in-VPC deployments.
A lot has changed since. Datafold sunset its open-source data-diff package in May 2024 and moved diffing into the commercial product. Its website now leads with AI agents for migrations, code review and optimization. And its pricing page no longer shows a single dollar figure. Captures of that page in the Internet Archive from February 2025 and February 2026 carry no price either, and today it renders as a request for a 30-minute demo to "discuss pricing and features".
So $799 a month, which is $9,588 a year, is a four-year-old price for a tier that is not on offer in that form anymore. The price Datafold does publish is higher: $15,000 a year is the entry package on AWS. If a comparison site quotes $799 without a date, treat the rest of its figures with the same caution.
Datafold cost by team size, next to a flat plan
Seat packages are sold in steps of 5 and 10, so a team that sits between them pays for the next step up. The right-hand column is DataTrail's annual price for the same team: Team and Scale include unlimited team members, so the price follows warehouses, not people. It is a different product (lineage and monitoring, not data diff), so read it as the cost of the lineage job alone, not a like-for-like quote.
| Team | Datafold, 12 months at list | Effective per developer | DataTrail, 12 months |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3 developers | $15,000 (5-developer package) | $5,000 | $3,588 (Team, $299/mo) |
| 5 developers | $15,000 | $3,000 | $3,588 (Team, $299/mo) |
| 8 developers | $30,000 (10-developer package) | $3,750 | $3,588 (Team, $299/mo) |
| 10 developers | $30,000 | $3,000 | $3,588 (Team), or $9,588 on Scale for several warehouses |
| 20 developers | Not listed, quoted by sales | Not listed | $3,588 (Team), or $9,588 on Scale for several warehouses |
Three developers buying the 5-seat package pay $5,000 each. Eight developers buying the 10-seat package pay $3,750 each. Only teams of exactly 5 or 10 get the $3,000 rate.
A per-seat contract grows with headcount, not with how much data you test. Ask for the price of seat 11 in writing before you sign, because the listing does not show it.
Datafold's migration agent is sold on a fixed price, timeline and data-parity guarantee per project. It is not inside the seat packages, so a warehouse migration is a separate quote.
What Datafold does well for $3,000 a seat
The listing describes Datafold as development, deployment and migration testing for dbt, and that is the fair frame. It is very good at one moment: the pull request.
It compares the rows a model produces before and after your change, column by column, within one database or across two. Schema checks cannot do that.
A pull request gets a comment listing changed values and the downstream models and dashboards affected, built on column-level lineage.
Cross-database diffing proves a table on the new warehouse matches the old one, which is the hardest sign-off in any migration.
Multi-tenant SaaS in US West (Oregon) or Europe (Ireland), or a dedicated cloud that Datafold or you host. Dedicated is quoted separately.
Where the seats buy less: incidents nobody triggered with a commit. A Fivetran sync that fails at 3am, a vendor that starts sending nulls, an analyst who rebuilds a table by hand. No pull request exists, so no diff runs. Datafold does sell data monitors for that, but its center of gravity, and the thing the Marketplace packages are described as, is testing code changes. If most of your incidents start outside your repo, you are buying the gate and still need the monitor.
Datafold pricing vs Bigeye, Monte Carlo, Sifflet and Metaplane
Most of these vendors route their pricing page to a sales call. All of them print a price somewhere else. These are list prices read from each vendor's own AWS Marketplace listing or price list, 12 months unless stated.
| Product | List price | What it meters | Unit rate | Source, read |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Datafold | $15,000 / $30,000 | Per developer seat: 5 or 10 | $3,000 per developer | AWS Marketplace, 25 Sep 2026 |
| Bigeye | $45,000 / $75,000 | Per monitored table: 100 or 300 | About $450 to $250 per table | AWS Marketplace, 26 Aug 2026 |
| Monte Carlo | $50,000 | Credits: $0.18 (Start) or $0.28 (Scale) each | About $115 per table a year on Start | AWS Marketplace and order forms |
| Sifflet | $48,000 | Platform credits | Not computable | AWS Marketplace, 26 Aug 2026 |
| Metaplane (Datadog) | $16 per table per month | Per monitored table | $192 per table a year | Datadog price list, 16 Sep 2026 |
| DataTrail | $1,188 to $9,588 | Flat plan, unlimited team members | Flat | datatrail.ai/pricing |
$15,000 is a third of the Bigeye, Monte Carlo or Sifflet entry packages. It is also a different job: CI testing, where the others are production monitoring.
Bigeye's per-table rate drops from about $450 to about $250 when you triple the estate, and Monte Carlo's credit burn per table falls in brackets past 1,000 tables. Datafold's per-seat rate does not move. Details on Bigeye pricing.
Monte Carlo's order forms price a credit at $0.18 to $0.28, and a table monitor burns 1.75 a day. Sifflet's listing never says what a credit covers. See Monte Carlo pricing.
When lineage and monitoring beat a per-seat CI tool
Plenty of teams price Datafold because they want one specific thing: to know what a column change will break before it merges. Datafold answers that inside the pull request. The question is whether you need the row-level diff that comes with it, and whether you want to pay per developer to get it.
DataTrail answers the same "what will this break" question from the lineage graph, any time, not only when a pull request is open. It connects to Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery, Redshift or Postgres with a read-only role and parses query history and dbt artifacts into column-level lineage that crosses the dbt boundary into ad-hoc SQL and BI. Open any column and impact analysis lists every model, exposure and dashboard downstream. Freshness monitoring and schema change alerts run continuously on the same graph, which covers the 3am failures no commit caused.
Pricing is flat: Starter is $99 a month for one warehouse, Team is $299 with impact analysis, anomaly detection and unlimited team members, and Scale is $799 for multiple warehouses and custom SLAs. See the pricing page. A ten-person team pays $3,588 a year on Team, or $9,588 on Scale with several warehouses, against $30,000 for ten Datafold seats.
What DataTrail does not do: it does not diff row values between two builds, and it does not run a migration for you. If value-level proof in CI is the requirement, Datafold is the stronger tool, and the two can run side by side. The honest side-by-side is on Datafold alternatives, and dbt-specific lineage options are compared on dbt column-level lineage.
Datafold pricing questions buyers ask
How much does Datafold cost?
Datafold lists two packages on AWS Marketplace: 5 provisioned developers for $15,000 a year and 10 provisioned developers for $30,000 a year. Both work out to exactly $3,000 per developer per year. Datafold's own pricing page shows no figures and routes to a demo request, so larger teams, dedicated cloud deployments and migrations are quoted by sales.
Is Datafold still $799 a month?
That figure comes from Datafold's "Datafold for Everyone" post dated 2 June 2022, which introduced a Cloud tier "starting at $799 / month when billed annually". Aggregator sites still repeat it. Datafold's current pricing page carries no dollar amount, and the only price it publishes today is the AWS Marketplace rate card, which starts at $15,000 a year for five developers.
Does Datafold have a free plan?
The 2022 announcement described a free tier for small teams. The current pricing page does not list one, and the open-source data-diff package was sunset in May 2024. The AWS Marketplace listing has no free trial dimension. Ask Datafold directly whether a trial or proof of concept is available for your warehouse before you plan around one.
What is a provisioned developer in Datafold pricing?
The listing sells "Provisioned Developers" with the unit "Users" and does not define the term further. In practice it is a named seat for someone who writes or reviews data code. Ask whether analysts who only read CI comments, or bots that open pull requests, consume a seat, because that decides whether you buy the 5 or the 10 package.
Is there a volume discount on Datafold?
Not at list. Five developers cost $15,000 and ten cost $30,000, so the per-seat price is $3,000 at both sizes, with no break for doubling the team. Any discount is a negotiated concession. Bigeye and Monte Carlo, by contrast, both publish volume breaks: Bigeye's per-table rate falls from about $450 to about $250 between its two packages.
Can I cancel a Datafold contract bought on AWS Marketplace?
The listing states that all fees are non-cancellable and non-refundable except as required by law. A 12-month package is a commitment billed on your AWS invoice, so run your proof of concept before accepting the offer, not after. Many teams can count Marketplace purchases toward an AWS spend commitment; check your own agreement.
What does Datafold include for the price?
The Marketplace listing sells Datafold for development testing, deployment testing and migration testing of dbt projects: value-level data diffs in CI, impact analysis comments on pull requests and column-level lineage. Datafold also sells data monitors, a migration agent quoted at a fixed price per project, and dedicated cloud deployment, which sit outside the two listed packages.
Is Datafold worth it for a small dbt team?
It is if your pain is proving that a refactor or a migration did not change the numbers, because value-level diffing in CI is what Datafold does best. If your pain is knowing what a column feeds and hearing about a stale table before a stakeholder does, you are paying $3,000 a seat for a pull-request gate when the problem is in production.
What is a cheaper alternative to Datafold?
For column-level lineage, impact analysis and always-on freshness and schema monitoring, DataTrail costs $99 to $799 a month on a flat plan with unlimited team members, read-only. It does not diff row values between two builds, so if data diff is the requirement, keep Datafold or dbt's built-in unit tests and add lineage monitoring alongside.
Where these numbers came from
AWS Marketplace pages render in the browser, so a plain fetch returns nothing useful. We rendered Datafold's listing with headless Chrome on 25 September 2026 and read both contract rate cards from the page data:
MP=https://aws.amazon.com/marketplace/pp google-chrome --headless=new --dump-dom \ --virtual-time-budget=30000 \ "$MP/prodview-fvnvwulb6kfbw" # developers_5 P12M 15000.00 # developers_10 P12M 30000.00
The demo-only pricing page was checked live the same day and against Internet Archive captures from 8 February 2025 and 7 February 2026. The $799 figure and its date come from Datafold's own 2 June 2022 blog post. Deployment options come from Datafold's documentation. Bigeye, Monte Carlo and Sifflet are this site's readings of their AWS listings on 26 August 2026, and Metaplane's rate is Datadog's published price list, read 16 September 2026.
What we did not do: we did not repeat contract ranges from aggregator sites, because Datafold has not published them. We did not quote review scores as our own finding. And every figure is list, before any negotiated discount or private offer.
