Select Star Pricing for the Select Star Data Catalog, Plans, Price History and Cost After Snowflake
Select Star printed its prices for four years, then took them down, and since Snowflake bought it the pricing page simply redirects to the homepage. Here is every published plan from Select Star's own archived pages, the 2023 change that made each seat four times dearer, and what buyers pay now.
Read-only connection. DataTrail never moves or mutates your data.
Select Star does not publish pricing. Its last public list, shown until February 2025, was $300 a month for Pro (250 tables, 10 users) and $900 a month for Growth (1,000 tables, 25 users), with Enterprise quoted. Since Snowflake agreed to acquire Select Star in November 2025, selectstar.com/pricing redirects to the homepage. Vendr reports a negotiated median of about $36,000 a year.

Select Star price history, from a free plan to a redirect
The Internet Archive holds 13 captures of selectstar.com/pricing between November 2021 and November 2025. The dollar amounts barely moved. What moved was everything around them: the free plan, the annual discount, the number of people each plan covered, and finally the page itself.

The 2023 change that made every Select Star seat four to five times dearer
Pro kept 250 tables and Growth kept 1,000 across every capture. At list that is $1.20 and $0.90 per table per month, with extra tables at $0.50 each in blocks of 100.
A catalog is only useful if analysts log in. A 25-seat cap on Growth means a 60-person analytics org was always going to be an Enterprise quote.
In 2023 Growth included SAML SSO and API access. By 2024 both were listed as add-ons, alongside PII detection and fine-grained access control.
Select Star Pro vs Growth vs Enterprise, what each plan included
These are the plan terms as Select Star published them. If a salesperson quotes you today, this is the fairest baseline you have: the same product sold at these list prices for four years, and the quote you get should explain what changed.
| Plan | Published price | Caps | What it added |
|---|---|---|---|
| Light (until early 2023) | Free | 1 source, 100 tables, 10 users | Catalog, popularity ranking, column-level lineage, tags, Slack |
| Pro | $300 a month, $270 annual | 2 sources, 250 tables, 50 users, later 10 | Adds business glossary and metrics definitions |
| Growth | $900 a month, $810 annual | 3 sources, 1,000 tables, 100 users, later 25 | Adds SAML SSO and API access (both became add-ons in 2024) |
| Enterprise | Custom | 4+ sources, 3,000 to 4,000+ tables, 100 to 300+ users | Fine-grained access control, directory sync, single-tenant VPC, EU deployment |
Two things are worth carrying into a negotiation. First, the annual discount was exactly 10 percent ($270 against $300, $810 against $900) and it disappeared from the page in early 2024, so ask for it back. Second, overage was always published: $50 a month per 100 extra tables and $5 (Pro) or $8 (Growth) a month per extra user. Those unit rates give you a way to sanity-check any seat-based quote.
One more detail: the "Snowflake Cost Analysis" feature, which uses query history to find unused tables, was an add-on on every tier in 2024 and 2025. If cost savings are part of the business case, make sure it is in the order form.
How much does Select Star cost in practice
Search results fill the gap with directory copy. The "$300 a month" line is not invented, it is the 2024 page, but it describes 250 tables and 10 users on monthly billing. Negotiated contracts sit far higher.
| Source | Figure it shows | Our assessment |
|---|---|---|
| softwarefinder.com | "Two plans starting at $300/month" and a free trial | Matches the 2024 page. Select Star has shown no price since April 2025 and no trial button today |
| Directories generally | "Starting at $300" or "contact vendor" | The $300 was real, for 250 tables and 10 users on monthly billing. It is not a current list price |
| Vendr | Median $36,000 a year, low $23,400, high $55,365 | Third-party, based on deals Vendr reports seeing. The only figure that reflects negotiated contracts |
The top self-serve plan annualizes to $10,800. Vendr's $36,000 median is more than three times that, so most buyers were on Enterprise terms.
Those were the three meters on every published plan. Put all three numbers on your request and ask how each one is priced.
Snowflake bought the team to extend Horizon Catalog. If you run BigQuery, Redshift or Databricks too, get support for them written into the contract term.
Select Star pricing inside Snowflake Horizon Catalog
Snowflake announced a definitive agreement to acquire the Select Star team and platform technology in November 2025. Snowflake's own post names the reason: Select Star's connectors to PostgreSQL, MySQL, Tableau, Power BI, dbt and Airflow extend Horizon Catalog's view to systems outside Snowflake. Founder and CEO Shinji Kim joined with the team.
Neither company has published what a Select Star subscription costs after the deal, and there is no Select Star listing on AWS Marketplace, where Alation, Collibra and DataHub all print a transactable price. For a buyer, that leaves a sales conversation as the only way to a number.
- 1.Is Select Star still sold as a standalone subscription, and for how long is that committed?
- 2.Which warehouses other than Snowflake stay supported, and is that in the contract?
- 3.Is the price per user, per table, per source, or a platform fee? Get the unit rate.
- 4.Are SSO, API access and cost analysis included, or add-ons as they were in 2024?
- 5.What happens at renewal if Horizon Catalog absorbs the features?
Select Star pricing vs Secoda, Alation, DataHub and Collibra
Select Star and Secoda followed the same path: self-serve monthly prices, then quote-only, then an acquisition by a much larger platform. The enterprise catalogs went the other way and now print a real price on a cloud marketplace.

When a lineage-first tool is the better buy
Select Star earned its reputation on automatic column-level lineage from query logs. Many teams evaluate it because a renamed column broke a dashboard and nobody could say which models read it. A full catalog with popularity rankings, a glossary and ER diagrams is a fine purchase, but it is a bigger one than that problem needs, and after the acquisition it comes with a Snowflake roadmap.
DataTrail connects to Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery, Redshift or Postgres with a read-only role and parses query history and your dbt project into column-level lineage. Open a column and impact analysis lists every downstream model, exposure and dashboard before the change ships. Schema change alerts and freshness monitoring run on the same graph.
The price is on the page: Starter is $59 a month for one warehouse, Team is $179 with impact analysis, anomaly detection and unlimited team members, and Scale is $479 for multiple warehouses. Team is $2,148 a year, about 6 percent of Vendr's Select Star median, with no user cap and no sales call. See the pricing page.
What DataTrail does not do: it is not a business data catalog. There is no glossary, no popularity ranking for business users and no ER diagrams. If those are the requirement, Select Star is the better tool, and the honest side-by-side is on Select Star alternatives.
Select Star pricing questions buyers ask
How much does Select Star cost?
Select Star no longer publishes a price. Its last published list, through February 2025, was $300 a month for Pro and $900 a month for Growth, with Enterprise quoted. Vendr, which tracks negotiated deals, reports a median of about $36,000 a year, with a range of $23,400 to $55,365.
Does Select Star have a pricing page?
Not any more. As of 29 September 2026, selectstar.com/pricing returns a permanent redirect to the homepage, and the site navigation has no pricing link. The homepage offers only "Book a demo". The last archived capture of a working pricing page is from November 2025, and it already showed no dollar figures.
Does Select Star have a free plan or free trial?
There is no free plan today. Select Star offered a free Light plan for one source, 100 tables and 10 users until early 2023. Its free trial went from 30 days in 2021 to 14 days in late 2022, and "Try for Free" buttons stayed on the pricing page through 2025. The current site shows only demo requests.
Did the Snowflake acquisition change Select Star pricing?
Publicly, it removed it. Snowflake announced a definitive agreement to acquire the Select Star team and platform in November 2025 to extend Horizon Catalog. Since then the pricing page redirects home. Snowflake has published no separate Select Star price, and there is no Select Star listing on AWS Marketplace.
Is Select Star priced per user or per table?
Both, historically. Every published tier was capped by data sources, tables and users, with overage at $50 a month per 100 extra tables and $5 or $8 a month per extra user. In mid-2023 Select Star cut the users included in Pro from 50 to 10 and in Growth from 100 to 25 without changing the price.
What did the 2023 seat cut do to the price per user?
It raised it four to five times. Pro went from $300 for 50 users, $6 per included user, to $300 for 10 users, $30 per included user. Growth went from $900 for 100 users, $9 each, to $900 for 25 users, $36 each. The table allowance stayed the same.
Is Select Star cheaper than Alation or Atlan?
At negotiated prices, usually yes. Vendr reports a Select Star median near $36,000 a year, while Alation lists $60,000 on AWS Marketplace and Atlan's filed UK rate card starts near $148,700. Select Star publishes no current figure, so get a written quote tied to sources, tables and users before comparing.
What is a cheaper alternative to Select Star for lineage?
If the job is column-level lineage and knowing what a schema change will break, DataTrail costs $59 to $479 a month on a flat plan with unlimited team members and no table cap on the lineage graph. It connects read-only to Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, Databricks or Postgres. It is not a business data catalog.
Where these numbers came from
Every plan and price on this page comes from Internet Archive captures of selectstar.com/pricing, fetched in raw form so the page code could be read directly, all read on 29 September 2026:

The acquisition facts come from Snowflake's and Select Star's own announcement posts. We searched AWS Marketplace for a Select Star listing that would carry a transactable price and found none. The Vendr figures are quoted as Vendr reports them and labeled third-party throughout.
What we did not do: we did not present a directory price as current, and we did not guess what Snowflake charges now. Every figure here is Select Star's own and dated, or clearly attributed.
